27

I was completely sursprised by flowers- from my little brother!
And this- amazing gift from a special friend- she thought of everything!

This may have been the best part.
Daniel and I spent the evening out; we took some pictures at the river and then went to Salvatore's. Hmmm, why do we have so few pictures together anymore?

Look at him! He's laughing! I love how much fun we have together.

River Fun

Fountain

He's loving this!
Just a little cold?
Curious George and Georgina.
I love that fountain!

"I will be cheerful now!"

After crabbiness upon crabbiness (that's what we call it here) Cambria got sent to the couch to rest for ten minutes. *many tears* This is the face she gave me when I let her get up.

She fixed her hair while she was on the couch, too. New hairstyles always help girls.

So we planted the garden. . .

Yes, I let him use scissors.
Look at the determination going on here!

Planting green bean seeds. . .
. . .mmm, they don't taste so good!

Yep- we planted it, but don't expect us to live off of the produce we grow!

Lemon Shortcakes

Cambria: "self, self. " (toddler-ese for I can do it myself)
After we were finished, she went out on the porch to feed her naked baby some snacks. . .
. . .while I cleaned up all of this!
They were amazing!
Lemon Shortcakes
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar powder (we have to use it up, right?)
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
zest from one lemon
Crumble shortening with dry ingredients and lemon zest, add milk and stir lightly till the mixture forms a ball. Cut out into 5 circles; place in round pan. Brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 for 12 - 15 minutes. Serve with strawberries and ice cream!

New Shoes

Love how excited he is about them!
"These shoes will help me jump on rocks, Mommy!"
Yep, I bet they will.

He says it's the last one. . .

. . . but I really don't believe him. I think he's addicted to roofing!

Mowing and Blowing

King of the Blower
As soon as I get my ear protection on, I'll show JD how it's done. . .
First he has to part with it.
It's my turn!
I win- finally. Of course, it's way too heavy for me, so I have to humble myself with some help from the expert.
Daddy-time.

This is a carrot.

On top of the silverware drawer. Stashed there for a convenient later snack?

I didn't put it there, just for the record.

They aren't supposed to do this. . .

. . .but this is what I dicovered when I went upstairs to check on them; Cambria just got lonely, I guess, and JD's top bunk is much more interesting than a boring toddler bed.

Play Dough, In Pictures

First, a quick trip to Wal-Mart. (Seriously, who keeps cream of tartar powder in the cupboard?) And thank you, JD, I can get the keys by myself.
I always forget, house keys, car keys, truck keys, church keys, rental keys. . .
. . . it's really surprising to me that my daddy hasn't color coded the key rings. Oh, wait, how about that, he has! Just haven't mastered my colors yet.
Stir up that play dough on medium heat. . .
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar powder
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/4 cup salt
    until it looks like this.
Now for the food coloring, the best part. And, no, I am not giving a thumbs up sign. I am just taking a little break from sucking it.
If you want to, you can do like our mommy did and try to keep the food coloring off of those little people paws by putting it in little ziplock bags
but I really wouldn't recommend it, and since we will just poke holes in the bags anyway, we found it to be a complete waste of time. our first four colors. . . we added purple and orange. . . Ok, is he going to notice if I steal his blue stuff while he's saying cheese for Mommy?
Awww, no mixing colors? Mommy! Too hard of a rule!
JD, the born multi tasker: rolling out orange, practicing the alphabet (see the J?) and singing at the top of his lungs.

Mother's Day

Cambria eating fruit kabobs with Mama Linda. . .
JD recovering after getting his toenail smashed: "I know my daddy said to put my shoes on, but did I listen? Nope, just enjoying my comfort clothes, too short jeans and my big white socks."
